Description Of Project
This bathroom, originally built in the early 1960's, had never been upgraded. My client, Jan, wanted a new bathroom and just wanted me to make it pretty. She didn't want to move anything because she was sitting on a slab foundation limiting the project to minimal construction. They had closed in an extra doorway that lead to another bedroom and something needed to be done about the open ended tub. I added a wall to make an alcove tub and create another space for a hamper base cabinet and countertop with a wall cabinet for towels and extra storage above. The vanity cabinet contains plug-ins in a drawer for her hairdryer and under the sink for her toothbrush along with other creative storage. Over the toilet, a cabinet was added to put personal items within reach.
Jan wanted soft colors. The new cabinets by Greenfield are beautifully finished in an ivory white with an antiqued glaze. When she fell in love with Seafoam Green granite, it was coordinated with tiles by Sonoma Tilemakers in Pale Ale with accent tiles in Spumante Green. Surprisingly, we found an amazing porcelain slate for the floor in natural grays, blues, and greens that grounded the depth of the granite from the countertop. The faucets and accessories from the Kohler Margaux series add sparkle to the room in polished chrome. The Kohler fixtures are in creamy Biscuit.
In addition, appropriate ventilation was added to the room along with the convenience of an unexpectedly beautiful grab bar. Finally, the outdated aluminum window was removed and replaced with a custom wood window frame by Marvin which holds a custom glass design.
This bathroom was created with love for a very special client, is elegantly Traditional, softly romantic, and feels like a natural clean oasis.
