Description Of Project
My client’s master bathroom was built in the 1980’s. The design was outdated, dark and drab. There was dark cove lighting above the vanity and sink. There were no recessed lights at all. The layout was not functional. The entire north wall was counter space that was basically being wasted. Within this large space, there was no bathtub just a 3’ x 4’ shower stall. My client, Joanna’s wish was for a bathtub and a look and feel similar to a spa retreat. She didn’t want to use glass or didn’t want to use blue or green hues. Jim’s wish was for a great shower. He didn’t want shower sprays but wanted a great shower head and a hand-held shower. They still wanted two separate sinks. I started by enclosing the entry door from two double doors to one pocket door. The pocket door has glass inset design. I removed the pony wall to make room for a free standing tub. I removed the vanity area, added double sinks and a large shower with enough room for a bench seat. I added a lot of recessed lights on dimmers and two wall sconces on the glass mirror for good facial lighting. I chose a Jeffrey Court Stone called Crocker Gold. The colors are soft enough to work with the spa feel. We used the same stone in various sizes to add texture and detail but not to overpower the design. There was an existing closet door that I changed to a pocket door for better circulation. This Master bathroom is now sophisticated, elegant and has spa-like experience. The new space feels larger and has everything that the Lang’s requested. They are exceedingly delighted with their new bathroom! |
